Target does it again...

Target buyers... I love you... this gorgeous gold and stone planter was on a shelf in the outdoor center.... just sitting on a shelf ... waiting on me to come by and snatch her up.... I wanted something simple for the dining room wall...and this planter was perfect.  eeeek.... so excited...

school has been cancelled for today

school was cancelled for today due to the weather (forecast).  Nothing has happened yet, no snow or ice... only rain... but, just in case I decided to bring in the firewood to dry out... Mr. Rocky wanted outside to play in the mud... he is not a very happy pup right now..
Our weather is so unpredictable... they say snow and NADA... come on Atlanta lets at least get a little snow... (keeping my fingers crossed)

winter storm Neptune misses the ATL.

watching the weather channel all last week had everyone on the edge and getting prepared for ICE... after seeing the northeast get pounded we weren't taking any chances... I stocked up on firewood, (which wouldn't be in vain anyway)we love a roaring fire on the weekends...but I stocked up on batteries and oil for the lanterns..
and after all the preparations and a well stocked kitchen.... nothing, nada... I'm not complaining, trust me... north of Atlanta did get the ice and snow... our temps were freezing...I mean like single digits... for Atlanta that is frigid.. we closed my school for 1 day.. due to the ice warning and temps.. so I took full advantage and hunkered down... potato soup, roaring fire and puttered around the house...
you know those little projects you put off... I didn't want to start any large home projects.. I knew I would be back to school Wednesday.. so I just cleaned a few cabinets and organized the linen closet..

today it's raining again.. cabin fever overload.. I am trying to keep the mindset to get all the little inside projects done during this weather and I will be freed up for spring...next project CLOSET purging...

now if I can only keep away from Netflix....

creating your space with what you love

a home should always be a reflection of you... the colors you love, your fabrics, your art...your style. a home should be personal.  I don't really like matchy furniture.. I never have.  That is my personal style.
I find a shape of a piece and see it finished in my style.  my personality.. I don't like a lot of clutter but I do love artistic eclectic styles.. merged with a modern twist.

I found this mirror at a local thrift shop, it was ugly!!!  dirty & an awful shade of brown.. but, I really liked the shape....I cleaned it up and added grey chalk paint and put it on an easel in the corner of the dining room.
that is what home is... creating a space that expresses "you".. a place where you are your happiest ...

and you can never go wrong with white!!! it is crisp and neutral.. and everything looks vibrant around it.
Enjoy your weekend... SUPER BOWL!!!!

saturdays ......

this morning I really wanted to stay snuggled up in the bed.. it was cold and damp outside... but when duty calls ... you know the "have to's",  and this morning was one of those... I was up and out by 7 a.m....
The first stop was the DMV... un-fun!!  hurry up and wait... and that is exactly what happened..
the line started before the office had opened.
after the un-fun DMV we decided to stop for coffee

coffee and the paper....Yea!! for the gas prices.. in Atlanta the gas prices have dropped to $1.89 ... pretty exciting... then to the grocery to restock.

while waiting on the laundry to finish .........

I am planning a small super bowl party for next weekend.. (even if the packers didn't make it) .. this house loves FOOTBALL..  & NASCAR ..
I have been scoping out some great recipes in the "The Meatball Shop Cookbook".
this is a great recipe book for family gatherings, or super bowl parties... everything I have made from this book has been a huge hit with everyone... the sauces and cookies are also amazing...

turkey meatballs and cranberries... in cred ible...
ice cream and cookies... you have to check out this book...

well, that is a Saturday update from the little brown house so I am off to finish the weekend list of errands, the sun if finally shining.. enjoy your weekend.

Diane Keaton & Morgan Freeman

for years my daughters have boisterously compared me to "the Diane Keaton", hmmm.. I'm pretty sure it is only the character she portrays, but none the less... the 3 have always expressed " that is so you"... "you act and talk just like her"... I sort of took that as a compliment (I think), ... I don't think I was as meddlesome as some of her characters... Because I said so... but then again.. these are my daughters we're talking about.. shhh. I didn't admit that...and she is certainly one of my family's favorites..
anyway... 5th floor up.. with Ms. Keaton and Morgan Freeman (perfection).. in may of this year... and the movie is based in Brooklyn (another plus)...I absolutely love Brooklyn... it should be amazing with these two icons....

arctic blast in the ATL....

not a creature was stirring.... not a dog walker, or jogger in sight.. but I am pretty sure this desolation isn't at Trader Joe's this freezing cold Saturday....
and I have places to go and people to see this weekend & scarves, gloves and hats are NOT a fashion accessory this week...
and a new full length "real" winter coat...kind of a big deal commitment for the south.

and next week, we will be back to cardigans and scarves....

no but seriously... really?

... .and there it is ... that leg!!  funny how sometime we aren't aware of our habits until someone calls you out... my daughter proved her point... if I am sitting (at home)... the leg is up!!! you win!!! :)

The ATL has sunshine.

Yes... as I came downstairs this morning (after a night of thunderstorms).. I saw this!!!

look at that window!!!! sunshine... and then I saw this!!!!

(pardon the movie madness in the armoire, just keeping it real)
 and more sunlight!!!!!

after days and days of rain.... creeks are flooded, the backyard is flooded, but
finally we may have a day of
SUN......(obviously we suffer from cabin fever).. I might even vacuum the car!!!

yellow doors and a buffalo...

I finished the "have to's", putting away the pretty decorations, all the pine needles have been swept away and the pantry restocked...
aren't these aisles perfect!!!,
yes, our local grocery has a starbucks inside..
plants returned to the inside...laundry nicely folded and ready to be ironed (procrastinate).. dry cleaners checked off.... whew....
done & done... movies with friends tomorrow and getting life back to a slower pace..

...little brown house and porches

it is going to be a domestic sort of day... raining again... we are beginning to feel as though we are living in seattle....
nice temps in January with rain require this little house to let any sun shine in...
laundry, dry cleaners and spot on ironing is in the cards for today.. school starts back Monday..  mindset change needed immediately..

new years day around the little brown house..

NYE around our house was spent with family.. board games, good food and big hugs welcoming twenty fifteen...

and new years day is a lot of this... in the south, it is a requirement.... blackeyed peas, corn bread and lots of greens... and being a traditional southerner (I do what my mama taught) we never ever do laundry on new years day...... that would be bad luck... so...anything that needed to be washed was cleaned yesterday... example the living room floor....after all the holiday celebration with our friends and family...it needed a good cleaning....

and re-potting some of the plants...
and to let you in on a little secret the home depot has marked their gorgeous pots way way down...clearance... 80%......

hello... new pots for the najour house.... I stocked up!!! I am ready for this years birthdays, anniversaries, housewarmings... plants or trees with a gorgeous new pot would make the perfect gift...
Have a special day... and don't forget the blackeyed peas...
