arctic blast in the ATL....

 

not a creature was stirring.... not a dog walker, or jogger in sight.. but I am pretty sure this desolation isn't at Trader Joe's this freezing cold Saturday....

and I have places to go and people to see this weekend & scarves, gloves and hats are NOT a fashion accessory this week...

and a new full length "real" winter coat...kind of a big deal commitment for the south.

 

and next week, we will be back to cardigans and scarves....

 

 

 

no but seriously... really?

 

 

 

 

 

... .and there it is ... that leg!!  funny how sometime we aren't aware of our habits until someone calls you out... my daughter proved her point... if I am sitting (at home)... the leg is up!!! you win!!! :)

The ATL has sunshine.

Yes... as I came downstairs this morning (after a night of thunderstorms).. I saw this!!!

 

look at that window!!!! sunshine... and then I saw this!!!!

 (pardon the movie madness in the armoire, just keeping it real)

 and more sunlight!!!!! 

 

 

 after days and days of rain.... creeks are flooded, the backyard is flooded, but

finally we may have a day of

SUN......(obviously we suffer from cabin fever).. I might even vacuum the car!!!

I finished the "have to's", putting away the pretty decorations, all the pine needles have been swept away and the pantry restocked...

aren't these aisles perfect!!!,

yes, our local grocery has a starbucks inside..

plants returned to the inside...laundry nicely folded and ready to be ironed (procrastinate).. dry cleaners checked off.... whew....

done & done... movies with friends tomorrow and getting life back to a slower pace..

 

...little brown house and porches

it is going to be a domestic sort of day... raining again... we are beginning to feel as though we are living in seattle....

nice temps in January with rain require this little house to let any sun shine in...

laundry, dry cleaners and spot on ironing is in the cards for today.. school starts back Monday..  mindset change needed immediately..

NYE around our house was spent with family.. board games, good food and big hugs welcoming twenty fifteen...

 

 

 

and new years day is a lot of this... in the south, it is a requirement.... blackeyed peas, corn bread and lots of greens... and being a traditional southerner (I do what my mama taught) we never ever do laundry on new years day...... that would be bad luck... so...anything that needed to be washed was cleaned yesterday... example the living room floor....after all the holiday celebration with our friends and family...it needed a good cleaning....

 

 

 

 

 

and re-potting some of the plants...

and to let you in on a little secret the home depot has marked their gorgeous pots way way down...clearance... 80%......

 

hello... new pots for the najour house.... I stocked up!!! I am ready for this years birthdays, anniversaries, housewarmings... plants or trees with a gorgeous new pot would make the perfect gift...

a little winter purging

a GORGEOUS day in Atlanta... the sun is shining and it is beau-ti-ful.. with warm temps or at least for December.... the garage is not so good... stacked totes from Christmas and gift wrap everywhere.... so... today, I am supposed to be in there organizing... and purging...

I am sitting on the computer -procrastinating-...

after this cup of tea... I am off to finish the garage... and then to the market to shop for our southern traditional New Years day dinner....

 

Post Christmas... a little happy a little sad

taking down the Christmas lights and all the pretty bright colors is a little sad, but bringing back the sunlight from the window... and the plants brought inside from the porch.. adds a little cheer.

the plants are happy to be back inside... poor scraggly little guy... my family left today for a looong road trip back home...
I have 1 more week of winter break before school starts 2nd semester.... so, I am going to spend a little time organizing the garage, and closets.... Winter cleaning.. and getting the little brown house back to normal..

(with a little New Years celebration)... :)

Cookie Exchange at school

This week I decided to be a team player and participate in our cookie exchange..... I was hesitant... I try to keep it real.. with Christmas cards to finish up, wrapping yet to be done, heck I still have shopping to do.... but.... I joined in on the fun.... hmmm. fun? the kitchen went from......

to.....

    & looked like this ALL AFTERNOON.....but,  I had a mission....... I wanted the cut out sugar cookies, with perfectly flooded royal icing... yes, a vision. A pinterest inspired moment....

after I cut the cookies, I gently placed them back in the freezer for a few minutes to help the cookies keep their cute little shape and not puff up like a marshmallow..

so far so good......and then.....

yes.... removed them from the cookie sheet, cooled them and put them in an airtight container.... and then DROPPED the container..... but

11 cookies did survive.....
